Overview
Nora is a macOS-first local agent chat app. It is designed to manage provider credentials, agent state, skills, schedules, sandbox workflows, and workspace files locally on your Mac. Nora makes network requests when you connect a model provider, download or update the app, check provider usage, or ask an agent to use an external service.
Local app data
Chat history, agent events, provider settings, credentials, tokens, usage snapshots, skills, schedules, sandbox state, workspace files, and local files you select stay on your Mac or in locations you choose. Nora does not upload this content to Nora servers unless you choose to send it to an external service or include it in a support request.
Model providers and external services
When you use OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Bedrock, Azure, Cloudflare, Cerebras, a gateway, or an OpenAI-compatible endpoint, Nora sends the prompt, selected context, and any files or content you allow the agent to use to that provider. Those providers process requests under their own terms and privacy policies.
Do not send raw API keys, access tokens, session cookies, or other secrets in support messages. Provider credentials are meant to stay in the app and on your Mac.
Agents, sandboxes, and skills
Agent work can read files, run tools, and propose file changes only through the workflows you start or approve. Coding changes are reviewed through the sandbox flow before they touch the host filesystem, so you can accept selected files, accept all changes, or discard the run.
Skills are local capability packages with instructions that Nora may show to the agent when a task needs them. Imported, synced, pinned, and enabled skills are managed locally by the desktop app.
macOS permissions
Nora may ask macOS for permissions such as file access, Accessibility, screen access, automation, and notifications. These permissions are used only for the local agent, desktop automation, file review, sandbox workflow, and notification features you choose to use. You can manage them in System Settings.
Diagnostics and support
Nora may store local logs, run status, provider usage snapshots, and error details on your Mac to help the app work and to make troubleshooting possible. If you contact support, you choose what information to share. Please remove credentials, tokens, private files, and unrelated personal information before sending diagnostics.
Website
When you visit this website, our hosting and infrastructure providers may process standard server log data such as IP address, browser user agent, request URL, and request time for security, diagnostics, and delivery of the website. The website does not use advertising trackers.
